Yoo Jian

Yoo Jian extends the use of mother-of-pearl beyond traditional crafts into the realm of contemporary art, presenting a new artistic experience that dismantles and coexists with the boundaries between tradition and modernity, as well as nature and the artificial. Her objects, visualizing the flow of the sea and waves, and moonlight reflected on the night sea, capture the serene yet dynamic cycle of nature through the harmony of mother-of-pearl and light. Yoo redefines the materiality of mother-of-pearl by combining it with various modern materials, exploring the relationship between light and substance. By visualizing the passage of time and changes in light, her work fills the space with light itself, awakening our senses in new ways.
